Piper Bill Millin Playing Bagpipes, Normandy Beach
As many heroes, Bill didn’t consider himself like that. He said “I was very lucky”. Indeed was he, as he was spared by the enemy snipers only because they thought he was mad. There is to be a statue unveiled to the man commonly known as Piper Bill in Montgomery, Normandy on 8th June this year, a fitting tribute to Lord Lovatts personal piper who led the troops on to the beaches on D Day playing his beloved bagpipes
